Intu Metrocentre based in Gateshead and owned by Intu, is a shopping centre for the public. The Metrocentre has over 10,000 free parking bays across its fourcoloured parking areas. The Metrocentre needed to move towards EV Charging to provide its electric visitors the facilities to charge whilst shopping, giving them peace of mind that the car will be topped up with charge after a few hours of shopping. Scope of Work
Elmtronics worked with Gareth Owens, Sustainability Manager, to understand the needs for the metro centre, what units would work best within the areas specified for charging stations, so we could provide the best solution. Elmtronics went on to then provided the service with a full EV charging infrastructure report, this included smart and reliable equipment at a competitive price. Once we knew the work was to take place Elmtronics offered the Metrocentre a full turnkey installation which included;
- Full ground work
- Electrical installation
- Backoffice Management
All installation work was carried out by a qualified Electrician to BS7671 (2011) and IET Code of Practice Standards and completed within a few days.
Prior to handover, Elmtronics engineers fully inspected the installation and an electrical certificate was issued, certifying the units were ready for operation.
Upon handover, the customer was fully briefed and trained on the equipment and given training on their software portal to create reports on usage and have remote support.
The Metrocentre have 3 dual charging stations which, (6 sockets) for 6 EV Charging at any time. The charging stations are connected to a back office which allows the user to register and charge their car while they shop.
The chargers are located in the green parking area near Marks and Spencer and within yellow multi story. With more and more of its customers moving towards an electric vehicles the Metrocentre have made a smart move with investing in a charging infrastructure and will be working with us and in the near future to provide even more charging stations.
