We are passionate about raising awareness and encouraging electric vehicle charging to change the future for good. So, we were incredibly pleased to see the huge rise of electric vehicles in Oxfordshire. It was recently reported by Oxford Mail that the number of electric cars in Oxfordshire has risen by 41% since September 2018, making up 3,465 battery, hybrid and fuel cell EV’s.
Despite such fantastic increase in eco-friendly vehicles, there is still a lot of work to do. It is important that local governments and communities continue to educate consumers about the importance of EV charging and the positive impact it can have on the environment.
In 2018, a target was announced that a minimum of half of new cars should be ultra-low emission by 2030.
Speaking of which, this news comes with an exciting new EV charging project which Oxfordshire trialled back in 2019. The county received £40 million worth of funding to get the ball rolling.
This funding went towards installing a brand new smart grid, involving the largest energy storage system in the world (50 MW). Plus, the Energy Superhub Oxford project will see the installation of 100 rapid and fast public charging stations.
It seems that this fantastic project is already delivering such promising results. With a 41% increase in EV’s, Oxfordshire is already on track to reducing city emissions by 40% in 2020. The project will also help to spread awareness about the future of electric car charging and generate a growth in public interest.
We hope to see similar dedication and investment into EV charging in similar areas across the UK. To stay up to date with the latest EV news, check out our blog.
