Based in Gateshead, Metrocentre is one of the largest shopping centers in the UK. The Metrocentre has over 10,000 free parking bays across its six parking areas.
The Metrocentre needed to move towards EV charging to provide visitors with the convenience of charging facilities whilst shopping. With public charging stations, electric vehicle drivers gain peace of mind that their cars will be topped up with charge after a few hours of shopping.
To provide the best solution possible, it was important for us to understand their exact requirements and what electric car chargers would work best within the specified areas. Elmtronics went on to then provided a full EV charging infrastructure report, which included smart and reliable equipment at a competitive price. Once the scope of work had been agreed upon, Elmtronics offered intu Metrocentre a complete public EV charging station installation package.
Our engineers installed three Alfen 7kW Fast Dual Chargers to their site, following the installation we briefed and trained staff on-site on how to use them.
Metrocentre now has three dual public charging stations (six sockets), meaning six electric vehicles could charge at any time. The charging stations are connected to a back office, which allows the user to register and charge their car while they shop.
The electric car chargers are located in the green parking area near Marks and Spencer and within the yellow multi-story. With more and more of its customers moving towards the switch to electric, intu Metrocentre has made a smart investment in charging infrastructure. They will be continuing to work with us to hopefully provide even more charging stations to the general public.
